Prodromi Village Tavern

Tucked into the quiet lanes of Prodromi village near Polis Chrysochous, this rustic tavern is run by welcoming local women who cook traditional Cypriot food to order. Diners praise the stuffed courgette flowers, couscous and bean dishes, as well as a rotisserie and grilled chicken that regulars, including a well-travelled local taxi driver, call among the best on the island. Vegan diners are well catered for, with around five plant-based options available on request.

The tavern also does a brisk take-away trade, with visitors stopping by for chicken and salads to enjoy back at their accommodation. Portions are generous and complimentary bread or dessert sometimes arrives unannounced. Quality can vary between visits, with a few guests finding the grilled chicken and potatoes underwhelming on an off day, so it's worth going in with an open mind. Open daily from 8am, with shorter Sunday hours, it's an easy stop for an authentic, no-frills taste of village Cyprus.
